Tilta Matte Boxes MB-T15 Editorial Review
The Tilta Mini Matte Box has emerged as a favored choice among filmmakers, especially those looking for a high-quality yet affordable solution for their camera rig needs. Users have lauded the product for its impressive build quality, which incorporates a blend of sturdy metal and durable molded plastic, demonstrating that it stands well against more expensive competitors in the market. Many reviewers were pleasantly surprised by the included accessories—like the 15mm Rods and multiple lens adapters—which greatly enhance its usability. For those pursuing a run-and-gun style of shooting, this matte box is particularly advantageous due to its lightweight design, making it easy to transport and handle with minimal fatigue. The thoughtful design includes dual cold shoe mounts for additional accessories, as well as a well-made top flag to shield the lens from unwanted light. While it satisfactorily accommodates standard filters, some users noted that the single filter slot is held by a peg, which can lead to slight looseness if not mounted precisely. However, the matte box isn't without its drawbacks. One recurring criticism relates to the tightening mechanism that secures it to the lens, which some users find cumbersome due to its small knob. This can result in slight rotation if only clip-on mode is used, prompting suggestions for alternative mounting methods for a more secure fit. Additionally, the filter slot's position and the need for some DIY solutions, like gaffer tape to secure filters, were mentioned as minor inconveniences. Despite these challenges, the Consensus remains overwhelmingly positive. Filmmakers regard the Tilta Mini Matte Box as an incredible value for money, especially given its performance and feature set. It is highly recommended for those who want a compact and versatile matte box without breaking the bank. **
