The book follows Corey's attempt to uncover the rampant corruption in eastern Long Island's law enforcement apparatus, which seems to be linked to a string of unsolved murders of Prostitutes. However, most reviewers felt that the book was let down by the uninspired plot, unlikable and poorly developed characters, and occasional cringe-worthy humor. Corey himself comes off as insufferably arrogant and crude, according to some reviewers. Others felt that the book was too long-drawn and only picked up pace towards the end. Some even noted that DeMille's earlier work was much stronger than this installment.
