Portishead (Artist) Format: Vinyl Dance & Electronic 602537972050 Editorial Review
**** Portishead’s “Dummy” is more than just an album; it’s a sublime auditory experience that captures emotions and transports listeners to a different realm. From its inception, the album has been celebrated for its haunting melodies and engaging soundscapes, featuring the extraordinary vocals of Beth Gibbons. Reviewers have been quick to praise the band’s musicianship, citing it as tight and compelling, particularly in how the atmospheric sound is woven together with elements of hip hop and profound songwriting. While listeners have mostly agreed on the overall brilliance of the album, some have highlighted a couple of tracks—particularly "It Could Be Sweet" and "It's a Fire"—as missteps. Critics feel these songs do not fit seamlessly with the rest, suggesting that their poppy nature disrupts the cohesive flow of the LP. However, these criticisms often do little to tarnish the album's overall legacy. Many have remarked on the vinyl's sound quality, applauding the pressing as solid, with some appreciating the minor surface noise that adds a nostalgic character to the listening experience. “Dummy” has rightfully earned its spot in the collection of both new listeners and long-time fans alike. Its impact stretches beyond mere melodious tunes; it serves as an atmospheric backdrop for various emotions and moments in life—whether it's a rainy day or a cozy evening with a loved one. **
