- Dans le présent ouvrage nous résolvons, dans les espaces de Sobolev à poids, le problème de Cauchy caractéristique associé à une classe de systèmes hyperboliques quasilinéaires du second ordre avec données initiales prescrites sur deux hypersurfaces caractéristiques régulières sécantes. De tels problèmes sont appelés problèmes de Goursat. Toute l'investigation est basée sur une méthode de point fixe dont les outils principaux sont, outre les inégalités de Sobolev et les inégalités énergétiques obtenues pour le problème de Goursat linéarisé, des estimations de Moser originales établies dans des espaces de Sobolev à poids appropriés. Comme application nous résolvons, sous des hypothèses de différentiabilité finie, le problème de Goursat associé au système Einstein-Yang-Mills-Higgs en utilisant la jauge harmonique pour le champ gravitationnel et la jauge de Lorentz pour le potentiel de Yang-Mills. Le champ de Higgs est éminemment important, eu égard à la découverte récente au CERN (Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire) d'une particule semblable au boson de Higgs dont l'existence postulée permettrait d'expliquer pourquoi certains objets ont une masse et d'autres pas.
